Gjon Muharremaj showed in an interview for "A live night" the meaning of his stage name, Gjon's Tears.

"Grandpa came to our house for the holidays and I had an electric piano and I had a song on the piano, 'Can't Help Falling in Love' by Elvis Presley, I pressed the button and this song started. He said 'Can you sing for me?' I said to myself that my grandfather has gone astray because I have never sung, I don't know how to sing. I taught him and before he left, I sang to him. He started to cry and in that moment I realized the value and importance of music, I realized that I can touch people in that way. In Albanian and Kosovo culture, grandparents are strong, they never cry and at that moment when I see the strongest man in my life with tears, those tears were very symbolic and very important for me."

Gjon added that when he grew up and conceived the name Gjon's Tears, he always kept tears as a visual element in his stage appearances. "Grandpa always told me 'I know you're going to be big, but I won't be here to see it.' I've tried to do as much as possible, go as fast as possible, with more power so that he can see [my achievements]."

"He was the beginning of everything. Without it I wouldn't do anything. He chose the music for me," he concluded.

Gjoni was born in Switzerland to two Albanian parents, the father from Kosovo, while the mother from Tirana. 11 years ago, Gjoni took part in "Albania's Got Talent" exciting Rovena Dilon and Armend Rexhepagi? while singing "Je t'aime" by Lara Fabian. In February 2019, the artist was a participant in "The Voice of France". In 2021, Gjoni was announced as the most voted artist by the jury in Eurovision 2021 where he represented Switzerland, while the calculation of 50% of the public's votes ranked his song "Tout l'Univers" in third place.
