Russia said it would set up a humanitarian corridor on Wednesday for stranded civilians seeking to flee fighting in Sievierodonetsk.

· Pope Francis said the invasion of Ukraine by Moscow was "perhaps somewhat provoked" as he recalled a conversation on the eve of the war, in which he was warned that NATO was "easily at Russia's gates".
