'Hollywood is without a backbone': Jim Carrey reacts harshly to the

Jim Carrey is criticizing Hollywood for Will Smith's continued applause when it was announced that he won the Best Actor award for "King Richard."

Smith's Oscar victory came minutes after he hit Chris Rock while the comedian was introducing the documentary category.

"I felt disgusted. I felt disgusted by the standing ovation. Hollywood is simply without a backbone and I think this is a clear indication that we are no longer 'the cool club'," he told Gayle King via HuffPost.

Carrey said Smith "should have been pulled out directly after hitting the comedian. Here, Gayle King reminded him that Chris Rock refused to submit a police report on the incident, but Carrey claimed it was only because the comedian" did not want hassle ".

Then, the actor added:

"That insult will last a long time. If you are going to shout from the audience or write something on Twitter, fine. But no one has the right to go up on stage and slap someone in the face."

Carrey concluded:

"[The slapping] came out of nowhere because Will has something going on inside of him that is frustrating. I wish him the best. I have nothing against Will Smith. He has done great things, but this was not a good moment. "He cast a shadow over everyone's bright moment last night. It was a selfish moment."
