Should high heels be worn during pregnancy?

In some of the comments in the recent posts of the moderator Arbana Osmani on Instagram, there are suggestions and / or criticisms that say that "she should not wear high heels" due to pregnancy. What do the experts say?

Should high heels be worn during pregnancy?

Wearing high heels during pregnancy may not be the safest choice. It is not the heels themselves that are unsafe: during the months of pregnancy, your center of gravity shifts and the ligaments loosen, and these factors - combined with high heels - can create a risk of falling. In addition to the possible falls, bruises and bones that can be damaged, falling during pregnancy puts you at risk for abdominal trauma, which can be dangerous for the baby.

Dr. Suruchi Desai, gynecologist, told Express Parenting that pregnant women are usually asked to avoid wearing high-heeled shoes during pregnancy.

"In the first trimester they can wear them, maybe for a while, but because of progesterone during pregnancy, there can be a flexion in the ligaments and joints. They also experience weight gain, along with swelling. There may also be some ankle instability; the gravitational center of the spine is sometimes bent. "Therefore, wearing heels can make walking difficult," she said.

Dr. Sushma Tomar, obstetrics and gynecology consultant, said: “In early pregnancy, you can wear high-heeled shoes that do not cause balance problems while walking. In late pregnancy, the position of the abdomen changes and pelvic tilt occurs. "When the center of gravity changes, it can cause back pain, leg pain and sometimes stimulate premature labor pains."

She added that wearing high heels during pregnancy can bring complications for both mother and baby. "If one wants to wear them, one should choose low-heeled shoes that are comfortable and do not tighten the legs."

However experts say holding them is not dangerous in case pregnant women are in the first months of pregnancy (like Arbana), walk to safe places and do not stand very long standing.
