The first SMS ever sent was sold as an NFT at auction for 107,000 euros, said auction house Aguttes.
The buyer, whose identity was not disclosed but is a Canadian related to the technology sector, now owns a unique digital copy of the first SMS message in the form of an NFT (NFTs are digital items that can be bought and sold using blockchain technology).
The SMS reads "Merry Christmas" and was sent through the Vodafone network by British programmer Neil Papworth from his computer on December 3, 1992 to Richard Jarvis's Orbitel 901 telephone, then director of Vodafone UK.
Vodafone said it would donate the proceeds of the sale to the UN refugee agency.
