Myth vs fact: Is it bad to wash your face in the shower?

As appropriate as it is, there is an idea that washing your face in the shower can cause the skin to lose its natural oils. Is it true?

"The presumed risk is that hot water dehydrates the skin, heat from hot water and steam can expand and explode sensitive blood vessels in the skin, and that bacteria in the bath can increase the risk of infection. But there is no scientific evidence to support any of these claims, "Ivy Lee, a certified dermatologist, told Healthline.

Abigail James says there may actually be some benefits to washing your face in the shower. "Shower steam can help the facial cleansing process. Many facials treatments around the world use steam when cleansing the facial area, as it softens the contents of the pores. "This means that cleaning can be more effective."

For James, it depends on everyone's preference. "I would rather have someone wash their face in the shower than not clean it at all," she says.

In other words: Find the skin care process that works best for you.

But be careful! Experts agree that washing your face in the shower will not damage the skin or cause acne, but that does not mean you have to set the temperature in the scorching heat. You should use warm water, not hot water!
