Queen Elizabeth II has received quite a few accolades and awards throughout her life, but that does not mean she accepts them all. Recently, the queen rejected the "Oldie of the Year" award because she believes that it does not meet the criteria, explaining that "you are as much as you think you are".
Gyles Brandreth, president of the Oldie of the Year awards, thought she met the criteria to qualify for the title and wrote to the queen's office to ask if she would accept it.
She "politely but resolutely" rejected the award, which is given annually to celebrate the achievements of members of the older generations who have made a special contribution to public life, although the queen gave her warmest congratulations.
In a letter published in the November issue of The Oldie magazine, her assistant to the private secretary, Tom Laing-Baker, wrote: to be able to accept the award and hope you will find a more worthy recipient. ”
The "Elder of the Year" award went to French-American actress and ballerina Leslie Caron.
