'The Albanian Virgin': A film about freedom and the love of dark times

"The Albanian Virgin" is the title of the film directed by Bujar Alimani, which will have its premiere at the 37th edition of the Warsaw International Film Festival on October 8.

Written by Katja Kittendorf and starring Rina Krasniqi, "The Albanian Virgin" bases the events of 1958 as historical time.

Luana, the daughter of a respected man in a village, befriends Agim, the son of a man ousted by the communists. Years later, their friendship turns into a teenage love affair, which turns into a problem for the family. The latter had "promised" Luana to marry the son of another family, since she was a child.

Referring to the trailer, Luana is faced with the dilemma: to run away with her boyfriend and risk being caught, even killed, or obeying the canon. The character understands that the environment in which he lives is a curse for women and he has no choice but to become one of them - a man.
