Unicode describes it as "a historical manuscript used to write in Albanian, which is undergoing a modern revival". It can be used on websites, computers and phones.
As a pioneer of the National Renaissance, Naum Veqilharxhi (1797 - 1846), born in the village of Vithkuq in Korça, began his work as a patriot creating an original alphabet of the Albanian language, consisting of 33 letters, which although not widely used , is appreciated by scholars for the work and importance of that time to have an alphabet of the Albanian language. He worked with the alphabet between 1825 and 1845.
With this alphabet, Veqilharxhi compiled another book, the first primer for learning the Albanian language entitled "Evtari".
In 2017, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Veqilharxhi, the director of the National Historical Museum, Dr. Dorian Koçi said :
"The national idea first started from the development of education and such a thing can not be attributed to one man, but to the whole constellation. However, Naum Veqilharxhi was the one who started his work in a "barren land", and after 20 years he gave us a very special alphabet with which the Albanian language could be written. "
Researcher Rovena Vata, present at the event "220th anniversary of the birth of Naum Veqilharxhi", stressed that as a revolutionary illuminist, Naum Veqilharxhi sought the awakening of national consciousness and thought that learning Albanian and raising culture could bring the homeland into the ranks of civilized countries. ”
