Unicode Consortium, the organization responsible for creating and standardizing emojis across devices globally, has unveiled the latest list of upcoming images. The "Emoji 14.0" update, which will be confirmed in September 2021 and will start widespread use in tetorm includes a number of new expressions for the iconic yellow round face and some new hand gestures (including "finger heart" popular over the last 10 years in South Korea).

Most importantly, the new range of proposed emojis includes a more diverse set of figures to represent pregnancy. Currently, there is only one pregnant emoji available on the smartphone, featuring a woman; a limited illustration of a biological process experienced by individuals of all gender identities. Therefore, this update is more inclusive of gender identities, with emojis that can be used to more accurately reflect the lives of transgender men who are pregnant, as well as pregnant persons who are identified as non-binary, gender-fluid, etc. .

Even before, Unicode efforts have focused on a wider ethnic inclusion - for example, some emoji colors. While now, there is also the "handshake" of two people with different skin colors.

This new update (that of ‘pregnant men’) is a similar attempt to move away from the idea of ??a gender default and the assumptions that the person using a smartphone is heterosexual and ‘cis-gender’. In addition to the "prince" and "princess" emojis, there will also be a "non-binary crown person" emoji.
