The time when Meryl Streep played the bad boss Miranda Priestly in "The Devil wears Prada" was not at all a pleasant period for the actress.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, which also featured Anne Hathaway (Andrea Sachs), Emily Blunt (Emily Charlton) and Stanley Tucci (Nigel), Meryl Streep said that period was "terrible."
The actress revealed that she followed some acting techniques, known as "the method", in order to better convey the figure of Miranda Priestly. The method consists of many training techniques and rehearsals that aim to encourage a more expressive role and help actors to experience the inner emotions of the character.
"It was horrible! I felt miserable in the trailer. I heard everyone rejoicing and laughing while I was depressed. I thought, 'Well, this is the price you pay when you are the boss.' "
The actress said that it was the last time "she tried the techniques of the method". Such a state often occurs in actors, as deep penetration into the emotions of the characters can cause them psychological problems, because it happens that they encounter difficulties to detach from the character.
