A lot of new phones are advertised as "water resistant", but that does not mean they are waterproof. Water resistance means that the device can withstand certain water levels well without any substantial damage.

How do you know if water has caused damage to equipment? Exposure to water can cause the following problems:
- blurry pictures
- broken or malfunctioning audio
- liquid dots on the screen
- does
not charge - does not light up

How to fix it?

First, do not place it in a bowl of rice. It's just a myth - it does not work. Instead, follow these steps.

1. Turn off the device immediately and do not press any buttons.

2. If the phone is water resistant and wet with another liquid, Apple and Samsung suggest rinsing it in a place with ambient water, but not in a leaking faucet as it may cause damage.

3. Wipe the phone with paper towels or a soft cloth.

4. Shake lightly to remove water from the charging ports, but avoid strong shaking as this can spread water to other interior parts.

5. Remove the SIM card.

6. Use an air purifier to remove water. Avoid using the hot dryer as heat can damage the interior and damage the screen.

7. Dry the phone in front of a fan.

8. Leave in an airtight container with silica gel packs (those small packs found inside new shoes and bags). They help absorb moisture.

9. Do not charge the phone unless you are sure it is dry. Apple suggests you wait at least five hours.

10. If it does not light up, despite the above steps, you should take it to a professional.
