Long-time fugitive: Ndrangheta mobster revealed by YouTube cooking videos

Not even a mobster long wanted by the police resisted the desire to publish delicious Italian recipes online, but that was all it took to be discovered by the police.

Marc Feren Claude Biart, 53, lived a quiet life in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, with the local Italian community. He was discovered through a YouTube channel where he showed off his skills in cooking Italian recipes.

The videos did not reveal his face, but the tattoos on his body betrayed him. Biart had been on the run since 2014, when Italian prosecutors ordered his arrest for cocaine trafficking in the Netherlands for the Ndrangheta Cacciola clan.

Calabria News reports that authorities did not disclose Biart's YouTube channel, but said he managed it along with his wife.

The prosecution and arrest of Biart was a collaboration involving the Central Directorate of Criminal Police, Interpol and numerous police forces from 10 countries. His arrest was considered a major development for the special operation called I-CAN, for Interpol Co-operation Against 'Ndrangheta.

Based in Calabria, 'Ndrangheta is considered to be one of the most powerful crime syndicates in the world due to its control over most of the cocaine entering Europe. Long overdue, 'Ndrangheta surpassed Sicily Cosa Nostra as Italy's largest mafia organization.
