Girls are making 'lip fillers' at home: Why NOT try it!

Sometimes TikTok brings valuable ideas and tips for girls, but there are also times when some of the viral trends and videos on the platform can be problematic. Such is the case of girls who are trying to install fillers themselves at home.

People on TikTok and YouTube are showing followers how to inject the filler themselves into their lips. Most are using a Hyaluron "pen", which uses pressurized air instead of a needle to inflate, usually with hyaluronic acid. Although many people are trying to do it, these non-injectable treatments are not FDA approved and dermatologists * never * recommend using them.

"These are things you can easily buy online, but no doctor uses them because you do not know what is in them," says Dr. Shirley Chi, a Los Angeles-certified dermatologist, added that this made this trend "dangerous."

The home filler test comes with a host of scary risks. Doctors say there is a risk of infection, nerve damage and even blindness if you inject an artery that is connected to deep vessels that lead to the back of the eye. Deployment / application is essential.

"Improper placement of the filler can also cause blockages of important blood vessels," says New York-based physician Dr. Rachel Nazarian. "Lips in particular have a lot of blood vessels and are essentially a minefield of potential complications."

Many of these videos on YouTube have been blocked by the platform itself. For a safer version for fuller lips, here are some makeup tricks from the popular YouTubers!
