In the age of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, we all have a constant need to look good in photos. Before a shoot, we consider many things, but above all the light and the best side of the face, which is surely your left side. 

Numerous studies have concluded that the left side of the face is not only the most photogenic, but expresses more emotion, which is why people prefer to see it more.

Professors at the University of Melbourne, after a study conducted with active users of social networks, concluded that most of them preferred to show more of the left side of the face through photos. In fact, this side is perceived as the most attractive by most people. 

According to researchers this side of the face expresses more emotions than the other and they explain it by making the connection of the way feelings are processed in the brain.

Also in the following TikTok video different users are shown by manually closing each side of the face. The left side, shows what we project, while the right, the way we see ourselves.

On the right side of the brain, where the left side muscles are controlled, emotions dominate. This can be the main reason why people instinctively display their left side whenever asked to pose for more expressive photos and the right side for a photo that seeks to "hide feelings".

Even painters always choose to paint their portraits showing the left side of the face.
