Despite his fortune skyrocketing in recent months and a report from Bloomberg saying he is now the richest man in the world, Elon Musk continues to remain in second place, according to Forbes estimates.

Following his recent earnings, Musk increased the value of his net worth by $ 9.8 billion, bringing it to $ 175.2 billion. That makes him "$ 22 billion" richer than the third richest person on the planet, the Frenchman Bernard Arnault, but still, Musk remains $ 11 billion behind number 1, Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon.

Forbes estimates that Bezos has a net worth of $ 186.8 billion.

Musk's net worth has grown at an alarming rate over the past year. He has added nearly $ 150 billion since March 2020.

Much of this profit comes from the rising share price of Tesla, which grew more than 720% in 2020.

Musk owns about 21% of Tesla, plus a stake in private rocket company SpaceX.

Tesla shares continue to hold record levels and the multi-billion dollar company remains the most valuable company in the world, in financial terms.
