Albania officially provides 500,000 doses of Pfizer vaccines

"On the eve of the change of years, Albania has officially provided the first 500 thousand doses of vaccine from the company Pfizer," said Prime Minister Rama in a statement to the media.

He said that Albania has secured 500,000 doses from Pfizer and is in discussions for other doses from Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

The first 10,750 doses will arrive at the beginning of the third week of January, a further 30,250 doses will arrive in February and others in line with the vaccination plan. He added that an agreement has been secured with two countries which will support Albania with 9,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine until the first half of January.

Following the communication, it was stated that the decision of the European Union, discriminatory against the Balkans, was morally unacceptable, politically incomprehensible and logically unjustifiable. "As a person I feel indignant, as a European I feel ashamed and as a prime minister I feel more motivated than ever for Albanians not to feel excluded from the vaccination campaign," he said. The Prime Minister stressed that Albania will also help Kosovo.

Initially, white T-shirts, teachers, police officers, adults will be vaccinated, starting from 75 years old and then following the schedule prepared for the declining ages.

The vaccination campaign will be called "Albania smiles". Vaccination, not mandatory but recommended, starts in January and is free.
