George Clooney was hospitalized after losing nearly 12 pounds for his next film. The Midnight Sky .

The 59-year-old was due to lose weight for his role in the film, as an astronomer surviving an apocalyptic event, but this made him rush to the hospital, from stomach aches.

His problem was diagnosed as "pancreatitis" and he spent several weeks recovering.

Clooney told the Mirror UK:

"I was trying very hard to lose weight fast and maybe I was not taking care of myself."

He added:

"It took a few weeks to get better, because even as a director, it is not so easy when you need energy. We were out on the glacier in Finland, which made the job even more difficult. But, of course, he helped me with the character. "

He also had to wear a long, irregular beard for the role, which Amal, his wife, dislikes so much:

"I grew a big and ugly beard and the boy was very happy because he hid things from me that I sometimes forgot. Then I said, 'Oh, look. I had a lollipop here. ' Anyway, my wife and daughter were happy when I removed it, because it was hard to find my face with all that clutter. ”

Amal and George Clooney are the parents of twins Alexander and Ella, 3 years old.
