According to INSTAT, there is a large gender gap between men and women in terms of wages in Albania: Men are paid more than women, for the same job.
The results of the Labor Income Structure Survey show that the average hourly income for men was 420 lek and for women 372 lek.
Based on these results, an hour of work of a man with higher education is paid approximately 50 lek more than one hour of work of a woman with higher education.
The same statistics for men and women with secondary education show that men are paid 193 lek per hour worked, while women 164 lek.
Overall, the resulting gender average income gap is around 6.81%.
According to the Survey, the extractive industry and financial activities are the sectors where work is paid the most.
The worst paid sectors include: Hospitality, services and entertainment.
Meanwhile, in terms of the total number of employees, men dominate here as well: 50.6% versus 49.4% that are employed women.

The results of the survey were obtained for all enterprises with over 10 employees, with 422 thousand employees and an average gross salary of 50,700 ALL.
