Active Instagram users spend about 48 minutes a day taking a selfie, the type of photo that is considered the "perfect shot" to post on social media. The most common sentence when striving for the perfect selfie is "wait for my best to come out". We all think that one side of the face is more attractive than the other, but how is the truth?

Professors at the University of Melbourne, after a study conducted with active social media user participants, concluded that most of them preferred to expose more of the left side of the face through photos. In fact, this side is perceived as the most attractive by most people, but why?

If you have not noticed, even painters always choose to paint their portraits showing the left side of the face, as the cheek and cheekbones of the left side look more attractive. According to researchers, this side of the face expresses more emotions than others and explain it by making the connection of the way feelings are processed in the brain.

On the right side of the brain, where the muscles on the left side are controlled, emotions dominate. This is probably the main reason why people instinctively display their left side whenever asked to pose for expressive photos and the right side for a photo that seeks to "hide feelings"
