The iconic role of Noah Calhoun from "The Notebook" always brings to mind the portrait of actor Ryan Gosling ... to this day.

During a virtual chat for the 64th London Film Festival, George Clooney said he could have been in the role of Noah. The actor was there to promote his latest film on Netflix, "The Midnight Sky", in which he is the director and protagonist actor.

Clooney said the film could be played by him instead of Gosling and by Paul Newman, instead of Jamess Garner, who plays the role of the elderly Noah.

"We would do The Notebook together," Clooney said. "Basically I would play as a young Paul Newman and it seemed ridiculous to me. We met and said, “All right. It will be fantastic "

But then, the actor withdrew because he seemed "crazy".

Ai told Paul Newman:

"I can not play your character as a young man. I do not look like you at all. "

Clooney said he wanted to work together, but "it was not the right thing for them."

The character played by Ryan Gosling, however, remains one of the actor's best roles.
