Today (Thursday 10 September) at 11:00 everywhere in Germany will open all possible alarms. "International Alarm Day" will be held for testing purposes and people everywhere will see and hear their noises at the same time.
West Germans, who are in their 40s, remember the sound of alarm sirens. At the time, during the Cold War, that sound would have been heard if there had been a fire somewhere near the neighborhood. Everyone would wake up, the firefighters first and everyone would do their job.
At that time, the explosion of alarms for testing purposes was even more frightening than the one that will happen today. Their noises today will change from time to time, in low and high tones, in a very short time.
Despite this, the situation today, decades later is quite different. Berlin does not rely solely on alarm systems to escape dangers. The German capital, which is also the largest country there with about 3.7 million inhabitants, has other ways to warn of a dangerous situation.
Today, NINA (a warning app) will turn itself off on pre-installed phones.
At 11:00 people will have to interrupt their usual activities a bit because they will be distracted by the alarm test, but experts report that it has no negative effect on the people.
