Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates thinks people need to get results faster so they can "change their behavior so they don't infect other people."
"The simplest thing about such nonsense is that you do not have to reimburse someone for a test whose results take more than 48 hours to come."
Bill Gates then adds:
"This test is a waste of money. And for all the figures on how many people have been tested, it is all in vain. "
He called it "madness" to pay for a test, the results of which come in 3 to 7 days.
The U.S. was slow in the nationwide testing phase, in the early stages of the pandemic, and experts say the timing of the results has hampered the country’s ability to slow the spread of the virus.
Brett Giroir, assistant secretary of health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, agrees with Gates and thinks testing needs to be improved.
"I said we would never be happy with the test if we could not get an answer within 24 hours and it would be great if we had test points located everywhere. We have not yet reached where we want, but we are doing everything we can. "
Giroir said that half of the tests done in the US were performed in large laboratories and the average return time was 4.27 days, adding: "We need to continuously improve our ecosystem."
The U.S. counted 733,243 tests on July 28, which is almost three times the number of tests for April, according to data from the Covid Tracking Project.
Gates has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to treating and researching vaccines for Covid-19, through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
