Greta Thunberg was awarded a Portuguese prize worth 1 million euros for her work to protect the environment and raise her voice about the importance of climate change.
"There is more money than I can imagine, but all the money earned from the awards will be donated, through my foundation, to various organizations and projects working on the front line to alleviate the climate crisis," said the young woman. Swedish in a video posted online (via The Guardian).
Greta was awarded the Gulbenkian Prize for her motivation for "being able to raise awareness of the younger generation about the cause of climate change".
Of the total price, 100,000 euros will be donated to the Son Amazonia campaign led by Fridays For Future Brazil that is tackling the coronavirus outbreak on Amazon. Another 100,000 euros will go to the Stop Ecocide foundation, which aims to reduce human criminal activity that violates the principles of environmental law and severely damages ecosystems.
Greta also won the highest human rights award from Amnesty International and the Swedish Right Livelihood award, often regarded as an alternative Nobel.
