If you have ever worried that you might be poisoned by the carbon dioxide you inhale while wearing the mask to not transmit Covid-19, experts point out that there is no reason to worry. For Healthline, one of the most trusted health websites, Dr. Darrell Spurlock Jr. from Widener University in Pennsylvania, said:
"The dose of carbon dioxide that you can get back while using the mask is quickly and easily eliminated from the respiratory system and metabolism. "I worry thousands of times more about the risk of not wearing a mask."
However, although wearing a mask is not dangerous, certain categories of people should consult a doctor in advance. Healthline emphasizes that people suffering from sleep apnea (serious sleep disorder consisting of respiratory arrest) should consult a doctor, as the normal non-exchange of oxygen-carbon dioxide gases can make breathing difficult.
Another category that needs to show caution are people who have severe lung disease and need oxygen supplementation. Due to difficulties in balancing carbon dioxide levels, these persons may encounter difficulties.
Experts say that despite the exposure to CO2, the body is still prepared to remove the excessive amount in these individuals, however to avoid any difficulties and problems, these people are advised to talk to the doctor in advance and in case they are not allowed to wear masks, should categorically avoid places with high exposure to Covid-19.
