Last year, the Bank of Albania introduced a new series of banknotes, a series that contains 6 denominations: 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10,000 lek.

All denominations of the current series of Albanian banknotes and coins, except that 2000 lekë, were approved in 1995 and put into circulation in 1996.
