This experimental drug cured patients with Covid-19 faster than usual

Some patients with Covid-19 in the United States are being treated with an experimental drug and the results have been positive, according to STAT News, an American health-oriented website that is part of the Boston Globe, the daily newspaper in Boston since 1872.

Patients are being treated with a drug called remdesivir. It was used in cases where they had severe respiratory problems and fever. After using remdesivir, patients were able to leave the hospital after less than a week of treatment.

"The news is good because most patients are in excellent condition," he said. Kathleen Mullane, specialist in infectious diseases at the University of Chicago.

The drug was developed by Gilead Sciences - an American biotechnology company that focuses on the production of drugs for HIV, hepatitis B and C, etc. - and was tested against Ebola, but did not succeed. However, numerous animal studies have shown that it can prevent and treat coronavirus-related respiratory problems, such as SARS and MERS.

In February, the World Health Organization said remdesivir could potentially treat Covid-19.
