After the WHO announced the coronavirus pandemic on March 24, self-isolation began little by little in many states, which consequently put people in touch with technology more than ever. Apps that began to popularize were initially new social entertainment platforms, such as TikTok, then important business and job applications, such as Zoom, Google Classrom's online learning app.
Of course the most popular applications vary depending on the states. For example, in France, the most downloaded apps on Google Play during March-April were: WhatsApp, Zoom, TikTok, Houseparty, Skype, Plato, Fast Scan, Google Drive, WpsOffice and Samsung Notes. Also in France, the Apple Store gained popularity: Plato, Zoom, Houseparty, TikTok, Skype, Discord, Park Master, WhatsApp, UNO! and Brain Out.
In America , India and Brazil, in the first place stands TikTok, which is also ranked generally ranked as the most downloaded in European countries.
A global report by Sensor Tower - which compiles data on applications - again notes that TikTok ranks first, followed by WhatsApp and Zoom. Then there are three platforms owned by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook, Messenger and Instagram, followed by Shareit, Netflix, Snapchat. Top10 concludes with Google Classroom.
