Why Camilla will not be called queen when Prince Charles becomes king

Prince Charles' wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, still adheres to a decision made public in 2005 when she married Prince Charles. At that time she declared that she had no intention of becoming a queen.

In a recent statement to the Daily Star, Clarence House - the royal residence of Queen Elizabeth II - was told that Camilla would not be named queen after her husband took the throne.

Clarence House said that "the Duchess' goal is to be known as Princess Consort." Princess Consort is an official title usually given to a prince's wife. The usual title would be Queen Consort - the title given to the king's wife, who has the same titles as her, with the exception of political and military powers.

It is thought that Camilla does not want to be recognized as a queen because of public outrage that continues to surround her figure somewhat in relation to her dubious relationship with Prince Charles.

However Queen Elizabeth II has no plans to step down for at least 2 years, so it is still unclear what will happen.
