At least 11 people have been killed and others injured as a result of two gunshots at two locations in Hanau, Germany.
On Wednesday, around 10pm, nine people died from attacks on two premises, police said.
Immediately the search for the culprit began. Armed police forces began patrolling and a helicopter was watching from above.
At around five in the morning, police announced that special forces had entered the suspect's home and found him and another dead body.
"One of the dead is most likely the culprit," police said in a statement. ?There is no other evidence to suggest that the culprit is anyone else. The identities of the victims and the suspects are being investigated. ?
According to local media, eight or nine shots were heard at the Midnight shisha bar in downtown Heumarkt.
Witnesses saw a black vehicle leave the scene. Moments later, shots were heard at another bar - The Arena Bar & Cafe in Kurt-Schumacher ?Platzin, in the western Kesselstadt district.
Police initially said eight people were killed, but later updated the balance, clarifying that nine people were killed in the attacks. At least five people suffered serious injuries. Unclear remains in the ninth dead were one of five injured.
So far, there is no information on the motive behind the attacks.
Hanau's representative in parliament, Katja Leikert, called the attacks "gruesome" and comforted the families of the victims.
The city's mayor, Claus Kaminsky, said this is "the worst night he can think of."
Hanau, in southwestern Germany, about 20km east of Frankfurt, has a population of 100,000.
The attacks came just days after one person was killed and four were injured outside a concert hall in Berlin. The attack happened last Friday, near Tempodrome, which was hosting a Turkish comedy show. The motives behind the Berlin attack are still unclear.
