Each year, Forbes compiles a list of the most influential women in the world, referring to areas such as politics, business and entertainment. For 2019, Forbes has topped German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is praised, among others, for strong governance and allowing more than one million Syrian refugees in Germany.
In second place is Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank, who previously served as director of the International Monetary Fund. Last year, it ranked 22nd on the list of most powerful women in the world.
Behind Lagarde is Nancy Pelosi, who became the first woman to be elected Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
Greta Thunberg, who was announced by Time as the Person of the Year, is ranked 100th. Queen Elizabeth II stands at 40th, Ivanka Trump two positions below. Serbia's Prime Minister Ana Brnabic is at 88th. Rihanna, Beyonce and Taylor Swift are ranked 61st, 66th and 71st, respectively.
