A genius child from Belgium will graduate at the Bachelor level at the age of 9.
Laurent Simons is studying electrical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) - a difficult branch for even normal students.
Staff have described Laurent as "simply extraordinary" and are expected to complete higher education in December.
The boy then plans to start a PhD in electrical engineering as he begins to study medicine.
His parents, Lydia and Alexander Simons, thought Laurent's grandparents exaggerated when they said the boy is too smart. Fortunately, his talent was also noticed by the teachers.
"They noticed something special about Laurent," Lydia said.
Laurent did a test after exam to help teachers figure out where his intelligence was going, "We were told it was like a sponge," Alexander added.
Laurent comes from a family of doctors, but his parents, however, cannot explain the boy's ability to learn everything quickly.
Lydia ama, has her theory.
"I ate a lot of fish when I was pregnant with Laurent," she said jokingly.
TUE has allowed Laurent to complete his level of study faster than other students,
"It's not uncommon," said Sjoerd Hulshof, director of education at the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at TUE. ?Special students who have good reasons for accelerating their studies may finish earlier. In the same way we help student athletes. ?
Hulshof called Laurent "just extraordinary."
"Laurent is the fastest student we've ever had," he said. "Not only is he extremely intelligent, but he is also kind."
Laurent said his favorite subject is electrical engineering and "a little medicine."
His progress has been noticed by universities around the world who are proposing a place of study for the next phase of his academic life. His family prefers not to make the names of these institutions public.
"Information retrieval is not a problem for Laurent," his father said. "I think the focus will be on research and applying knowledge to discover new things."
Because Laurent can learn faster than others, his parents do their best to make the 9-year-old have fun.
"We don't want to get too serious. Do whatever you like, ?Alexander said. "We have to find the balance between being a kid and being a genius."
Laurent said he enjoys playing with the dog and the phone, as well as other children.
Unlike other 9-year-olds, he has decided what he will do in life: develop artificial organs.
For the time being, Laurent has to complete his Bachelor level and choose the next academic home on this unmatched journey.
Right now she's planning to go on vacation to Japan, simply because she deserves it.
