What a scent of regret, happiness, success and friendship according to

According to scientific studies, by all senses, the nose is the most accurate as it can effectively remember what scent it once was. In the Scent Memories column, The Cut asks interviewees about fragrances that correspond to different periods of time in their lives.

The Cut asked Dior perfumer François Demachy, creator of Joy by Dior Eau de Parfum Intense, about what fragrances hold intangible concepts like spending time, happiness and mornings.

The first scent I remember is: My mom of course. She wore two perfumes. Chanel No. 5th and Miss Dior. I worked for Chanel for 20 years and now I work for Dior, it's weird.

Happiness has a fragrance: Happiness or joy is associated with light. Look outside. In many religions, you will find happiness associated with light. Sure, it's subjective, but the light is universal. I think the grades associated with light are roses and neroli.

Friendship has a fragrance: In French there is a saying that when you don't like someone, you can't smell what the scent is. It means you can't stand it. Some people will never smell bad for you.

Repentance has a fragrance: It's about time. Feathers that evoke penance are old, like carnations. Not used anymore.

Success has a fragrance: Champagne. Not just by flavor, but also by form. There are bubbles - as short-lived as success.

Holidays have a fragrance: When we make perfumes, we think of how smelling affects the brain and memory. To remind you of a sunny day, use materials like coconut nuts found in the booster. The brain remembers everything. For me, the holidays have a salt and pepper flavor.

The most obnoxious scent is: I don't like cumin. I know it's used a lot in perfumes, but I find it difficult. Besides, I don't like the smell of roast chicken. After flipping it, you need to burn it to a fire source. The smell of burning flesh is unbearable.

Sunday morning has a fragrance: Time. We take the time we need. I take breakfast in a hurry. If I were to make a perfume on this idea, I would use orange buns. It is already found in cosmetic products and reminds us of the time we take for ourselves.

Monday morning has a fragrance: Eau de cologne. I use a special cologne that I just made for myself. Since I am perfumed, I do not want the fragrances to stay long in my body. I did it without moss and it stays on the skin for only an hour and then disappears. It is very simple and relaxed.
