Bebe Rexha has been involved with music since 2010, several years before gaining fame with the hits "Me, Myself & I" or "Meant to Be". On the road to success, the 30-year-old has also faced the dark side of the industry she worked for for years.
In a recent interview for Cosmopolitan in the UK, Bebe recalls some of the darkest experiences with well-known producers.
?When I first arrived in Los Angeles, I worked with a great producer. He escorted me to a room where there were other songwriters who all seemed to be intoxicated, ?she said. "A songwriter came in and said, 'Listen - you have no hit, but I'm busy. So I'm going downstairs and having some fun with my friends while you're writing a song, recording it and editing it. In the end, you'll say it's a song we've written together. '?
Referring to the interview, the experience is alleged to have taken place at Dr.'s home. Luke, the longtime producer is in a legal battle with Kesha after her indictment that he sexually assaulted her in 2014.
Bebe claims that Kesha's mother persuaded her not to work with the producer.
?I remember being at a dinner with Kesha and her mother. She came towards me and whispered to me, 'Don't do it.' He was talking about working with Dr. Luke, ?she said. ?The music industry is a dark place, and she tried to stop me from going down the same path her daughter went through. I heard it and honestly it's the best thing I've ever done. ?
Among other things, Bebe confesses that he also faced a producer who was considered important. ?There was a producer going into the studio and massaging my legs. She once tried to get on her knee and was getting a bit harsh, ?she adds. "But I have grown to not let anyone touch my body without my desire."
In another case, the singer confesses that she felt they were raped. ?One night, I was in the studio with a producer who had five or six other guys with him. I had heard some things about him about his past and I just couldn't work anymore. I felt like they were going to rape me. I secretly phoned a cab and escaped from the recording studio. It was the worst night in my life, ?she concludes.
