Eleni Foureira along with Conchita, Måns Zelmerlöw and Verka Serduchka performed on the final night of the Eurovision. During the performance, a MyHeritage chart presented Eleni as 68.9% from Greece and southern Italy.
MyHeritage (My Origin) - the sponsor of Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv - is an online genealogy platform that allows users to upload data to find their origins history. MyHeritage also has a DNA testing service, known as MyHeritage DNA.
Eleni underwent a DNA testing, resulting in 68.9% from Greece and Italy, 29.8% from the Balkans and 1.3% Jewish Ashkenazi (Jewish Diaspora population that joined the Holy Roman Empire at the end of the millennium first). After Eleni was informed about her origin, she reacted astonished.
"Really? Italian? I have no idea! Wait, I'm almost 70% Greek? I'll cry, "she said." I'm not Greek, but I feel like that. I grew up in Greece and I have the same mentality. "The singer adds that" she expected to be more of Balkan origin, at least 50%. "
In July of the previous year, in an interview with Jonida Podcast published a few days after the concert of Eleni Foureira in Tirana, the singer spoke little of all, including career, future, childhood and of course emigration and family. Earlier, Eleni denied Albanian origin because of prejudices, but later confessed that he left Fier at age 1.
During the nights of Eurovision 2018, a photo featured with Eugen Bushpepa making the symbol of the eagle caused a river of accusations and offenses to be released over Cyprus's representative. During an interview for Greek television "Star Tv" Eleni talked about her experience in Lisbon in Portugal and the attack in question.
"All these shows made me waste just to get some real news by supporting some untrue news. I was shocked by the state I want, where I suddenly turned all over. That hurt me more. None of those racists who once pushed me to feel ashamed and afraid to say who I am really will not hate Greece. "
