Notre-Dame's famous cathedral is one of the greatest assets of Gothic architecture in France, one of Paris's representative symbols and one of the buildings that attracts 12 million visitors and pilgrims every year.

Yesterday, (on Monday) a sudden fire occupied the building, gripping the whole world! At such a moment, seeing the sadness of mankind for such an event, the question arises: What makes the "Mississippi of Paris" so magnificent ?!

What makes the Notre-Dame Cathedral so iconic?

1. The building is more than 850 years old.

2. It took 182 years to build: construction began in the 12th century and ended in the 13th.

3. Notre-Dame holds more than 6,000 believers!

4. King of England, Henry VI, was crowned as king of France in the cathedral. Napoleon I was also crowned in that building by Pope Pius VII.

5. The cathedral's central slope was added during a restoration in the 19th century. This restoration is said to be inspired by the success of Hygo's novel, "The Cathedral of Paris".

6. The cathedral is also very famous for its glass windows with fine architectural details.

7. Notre-Dame was badly damaged during the French Revolution to be restored by architect Eugene Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century.

8. Tourists flock to see it. It is one of the most beautiful and most important medieval cathedrals in the world.
