Why do babies do not shake when they are cold?

On cold days like these, our mind goes to the babies, as being the most in need of care. If we adults when we feel cold we begin to shake, as a warming mechanism, babies do not.

Have you seen a baby shudder when it's cold? No, because they do not and science has a specific explanation for that. The vibration that we often do in adults causes muscle extension and contraction of their extremities, which leads to increased body temperature.

But unlike us, babies have some kind of fat content that helps them not get cold. On the neck, arm and shoulder they have an element called "brown fat", which burns calories and releases heat.

This substance is lost over the years, though it remains in very small quantities. Experts have found that this substance is at higher levels in poorer people than those overweight, as "brown fat" instead of accumulating fat mass burns it.
