Zayn Malik has revealed that he has never been in love, despite having a long-term relationship with Gigi Hadid.
During an appearance on "The Zach Sang Show," the "Pillowtalk" singer admitted to Zach Sang that he thinks he may have never experienced true love.
Despite being engaged to Little Mix's Perrie Edwards and having a three-year-old daughter, Khai, with ex-partner Hadid, he expressed uncertainty about whether any of his past relationships had any depth.
"I don't know if I've ever really been in love," he told the radio personality. He added that he has been exploring these complicated feelings on his upcoming album, Room Under The Stairs. His split with Gigi Hadid in October 2021 was a major influence on several songs on the album.

"The first song I wrote on the album was 'Alienated,' and it was at the end of my relationship," he explained. "When my ex-partner and I were breaking up."
He continued: "So there's a strong narrative about the kind of things I was going through mentally in that situation and what I was thinking and how I was feeling."
He spoke specifically about one song, "Who It Feels," which explores the complexities of being in love with someone but knowing you're not responding to them in the way they need. He said: "I think in this song in particular I'm talking about not being able to explain to the person you love why you can't be the best version of the partner you could be. And that's a really sad thing."
Beyond the revelations of his highly anticipated album, Malik expressed his delight for his daughter and that she is already showing signs of musical talent. However, the former boy band member pointed out that her talents are likely inherited from her model mother.
The pop star raised his daughter in rural Pennsylvania, away from the cameras. On a March 14 episode of Hot Ones, the former One Direction member said that getting away from the noise and speed of the entertainment industry has helped improve his songwriting process in the long run.
"I think life, in general, can affect your writing process," he explained to host Sean Evans. "You have to live and have experiences to have something to talk about. So, yeah, it was certainly influenced by the area around Pennsylvania."
Malik has begun to distance himself from his past, avoiding the media and interviews as he promotes his upcoming album, an unusual event and a gift to his longtime fans, who are excited to see the singer come out of his period of isolation.
