Viola Davis turned 60 and feels "great."
The famous actress, who celebrated her birthday on August 11, has started this new chapter of her life with style and elegance. During a conversation with People at The Television Academy Hall of Fame in Los Angeles, Davis explained why she now feels happier than ever.
“Fantastic. I’m alive, I’m breathing, and I’m about to have a cocktail and eat some food,” she said. “I feel happier than I’ve ever felt before.”
The secret? She's been working to become a better version of herself.
“I was curious enough about myself to do the work necessary, and now that I’m 60, I can honestly say I’ve found my home,” Davis explained. “I found my ruby ??shoes, and that’s been a huge relief for me.”
The actress added that by embracing the process of personal development, she has managed to resist the pressure to feel “aging.” On the contrary, she feels that she now feels younger than ever.
The EGOT winner has always been a powerful voice for self-awareness and authenticity. In 2016, while accepting the #SeeHer award at the Critics' Choice Awards, she spoke about the transformative power of embracing her identity.
“I've always discovered the heart of my characters by asking, 'Why?' When I got the role of Annalise Keating, I said, 'She's sexy, mysterious.' I'm used to playing women who have to gain 20 pounds and wear an apron," Davis said.
“Then I said, ‘Oh my God, I need to lose weight. I need to learn to walk like Kerry Washington in heels. I need to get rid of my belly.’ But then I ask myself, ‘Why do I have to do all this?’”
