Vanessa Bryant today commemorated her late husband, Kobe Bryant, and daughter, Gianna, on the anniversary of their deaths. The 38-year-old posted on Instagram a touching letter from one of Gianna's friends, Aubrey Callaghan.
"Today I received this sweet letter from one of Gianna's best friends, Aubrey. I love you Aubz (as my Gigi would call you). Thank you so much for sharing with me some of your memories with my Gigi and for allowing me to post it on Instagram. My Gigi is amazing and I really appreciate the thoughtful letter. She loves you so much. I miss my daughter and Kob-Kob so much. I will never understand why / how this tragedy happened to human beings so beautiful, sweet and amazing. It still does not seem true. Kob, we are fine. Gigi, you still make mom proud. ” - wrote Vanessa.
In the letter, Giana's friend wrote that memories of "Gianna's smile and attitude [pushes her] to be better" and that she hopes her future daughters will be like Vanessa's daughters .
"There are times when I get into a pit of despair thinking about her and what she could have achieved if she had two more years. But lately I have been thinking about the mark she left on Earth. Her struggle for equality. "In sports they influenced things to change. She and Mr. Bryant were very influential." - writes in the letter Aubrey.
Kobe and Gianna were among nine people killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California in January 2020. The basketball legend was 41 years old while his daughter was 13.
