Travis Scott has spoken about the fatal tragedy that happened at his Astroworld concert, where 10 people died and hundreds more were injured after the chaos that engulfed the crowd, due to the overcrowding of the venue where the concert was taking place.
The chaotic event took place on November 5, 2021 in Texas and the rapper faced a lot of criticism. He spoke about the event in an interview with GQ, saying that the fans were like his family.
"I always think about it (the event). Those fans were like my family. You feel bad for those people and their families," Scott said. He indicated that the tragedy also affected his creativity in the creation of the album "Utopia", adding that it took him many months to return to music.
In his song "My Eyes", he specifically refers to the tragedy saying: "This is a constant burden that you carry and you know/ And (it's) just the vision in my eyes."
"The song is emotional for me. It's one of my favorites from the album and this verse means a lot to me", he said, continuing: "I also feel pain, I have concerns, things I think about on a daily basis. I try to find the difference in things, to do better things, to improve myself," he said.
After the Astroworld tragedy, the rapper was heavily criticized for not stopping the concert. He said in December 2021 that he didn't hear any screams and, in fact, stopped the show several times to make sure fans were safe.
He even faced many lawsuits from family members, but on June 29 of this year, the Texas court decided not to prosecute, saying that he was not responsible for what happened.
