If there is a statistic that may surprise you today, it is precisely this: Albanians rank second in Europe, after Switzerland, as people who perceive that they feel good about their health.
According to data published by Eurostat, almost 83% of Albanian citizens over 16 years of age declare that they self-perceive that they are in good or very good health, from 69%, which is the European average. For men, this perception is higher than for women.
In the region, Serbs feel worse, followed by Montenegro and North Macedonia. The data for Kosovo are not presented.
A possible explanation of the data, which refers to the year 2020, can also be related to the age of the population. For example, Serbia has the oldest population, while in Albania the country has a relatively younger population.
Our country has the fourth youngest population in Europe, with about 38 years old, after Kosovo (30.5 years - year 2020), Turkey (32.8) and Iceland (36.7).
In this context: What does it mean to feel good about yourself?
The study refers to a perception about health in general. According to Eurostat, this perception refers to an individual's personal beliefs and statements about their health status. It is a subjective term, but a strong indicator that reflects the state of physical, mental and social well-being of an individual.
The way people perceive their health is influenced by a number of complex factors, including environmental, cultural and socio-economic conditions. Not surprisingly, the older you get, the lower the perception of being in good health.
