Scientists develop a method that tracks Covid-19 within four hours

In a statement this Thursday (December 10th), Australian scientists said they have developed a rapid method of observing the genome that will shorten the time it takes to find the source of coronavirus cases within four hours, which helps to foci of infection are prevented.

Genome sequencing can help scientists monitor small changes in the virus nationwide or internationally to understand how it is spreading and provide insights into how different cases relate.

Offending. In the field of molecular biology and genetics, a genome is all the genetic material of an organism. When a virus enters the body, it happens to change, to mutate to adapt.

"When a new case of coronavirus is identified, every minute counts," said Ira Deveson, a scientist at the Garvan Institute for Medical Research, in a report prepared in collaboration with the University of New South Wales.

Genome testing helps track down mysterious cases where the source of the infection remains unknown and it takes more than 24 hours to have data.

"By identifying this genetic change, we can determine how different cases of the coronavirus are related," said scientist Rowena Bull.
