Serbia has threatened to withdraw from the European championship, accusing Albanian and Croatian fans of chanting "kill, kill, kill the Serbs" in the stadium. According to them, the calls happened during yesterday's match between Croatia and Albania.
The General Secretary of the Football Federation of Serbia, Jovan Surbatovic, submitted a request for UEFA to take punitive measures against Croatia and Albania for the alleged calls in the 59th minute of the match. Surbatovic has said that Serbia is ready to leave Euro 2024 if no action is taken.
"First, I want to thank our fans for their support in the match against England and I hope we can beat Slovenia. What happened (in the Croatia-Albania match) was scandalous and we ask UEFA to take sanctions, even if it means not continuing the competition. We are sure that they will be punished", he said.
Further, he added:
"We will ask UEFA to punish both federations. We do not want to participate in this scandal, but if UEFA does not punish them, we will think about how our journey will continue. We were punished for isolated occasions and our fans behaved much better than others. A fan was convicted of racist abuse and we do not want this behavior to be attributed to others. They faced a heavy fine from UEFA", he concluded, referring to the case when banners with expressions against Kosovo and banners with the joint map of Serbia and Kosovo were presented.
Serbia's next match is against Slovenia.
