According to Euronews, about 300 Afghans will arrive in Albania within 24 hours. The first nationals to arrive in the country are US and NATO collaborators whose lives are in danger after the Taliban take control of Afghanistan.
Most of them are translators and collaborators of various levels of American structures in Afghanistan.
However, US Ambassador Yuri Kim said that the exact number of Afghan emigrants expected to arrive in Albania is still unknown. She said that "the situation is dynamic and the exact details of how it will be proceeded are still unknown" and stressed that the stay of citizens will be temporary in Albania. According to her, it is planned that later, Afghan citizens will move to America to settle permanently.
"The US is coordinating the situation closely together with the Albanian government. "Some people are going directly to the US, several thousand are already there."
Their accommodation will be done in the student building in Tirana and in some hotels in Durrës. Apart from Albania, the acceptance of Afghans has so far been confirmed by Kosovo, Northern Macedonia and Canada.
