The dog finds happiness in an unusual place...in prison

Inmates at a prison in Tasmania, Australia, have adopted a dog that experienced extreme anxiety when separated from people.

"Caesar was so worried about going out that he was actually only happy when he was here," prison officer Wayne Schulze told Euronews. Caesar, 10, suffers from extreme separation anxiety, unable to be left alone for more than 30 minutes.

Now he is enjoying a happy and safe life behind bars, full of attention. Caesar was part of the Pups on Parole program and regularly went to the prison to socialize with the inmates.

Because of the anxiety symptoms, it was difficult for the dog to be adopted by an ordinary family. This prompted the inmates – who are serving respective sentences in a minimum security prison – to band together, raise A$14,000 and adopt the dog.

"I've seen troubled men come to this place and spend some time with Caesar and, yes, it's amazing what [this dog will do for them]," said the prison officer.
