Periods are a normal part of life and I believe that we have now passed the stage where we were "ashamed" to talk about them.
However, you may still feel awkward when you have to ask about certain issues about them. Therefore, based on the answers of different gynecologists, we are answering some of those "awkward" questions.
How much blood is *too much* blood?
The amount of blood during periods varies from a number of factors such as your daily activity, etc. Some people bleed more than others. If you are bleeding after 7 days or more, and in the first days you need to change the tampon/liner every hour at most, consult a gynecologist.
Why is blood sometimes brown?
The color depends on the flow of bleeding. "It can take time for the blood to leave the uterus, through the cervix and then out of the vagina. Red blood is fresher, but over time, it will take on a darker color. So as you move into your slower flow days, the blood is more likely to be brown.
Why do I go out more often when I'm on my period?
As if the pains in the middle were not enough, many girls also go through what is known as "period diarrhea". This is common during the menstrual cycle.
Prostaglandins – the same chemicals that cause lower back pain can also cause the intestines to contract, subsequently leading to diarrhea.
If I'm not bleeding too much, can I wear a tampon/liner all day?
No. Even if you're not bleeding heavily, you should change your tampon or liner every 4 to 8 hours.
What about when I see clotted blood?
Even in this case there is no need to panic. If you think the situation is unusual or worrying you can consult a gynecologist, but clots are rarely a sign of anything serious.
