It opened just over a year ago, but a 24-key luxury Italian property has already been named the best hotel in the world.
The Passalacqua, which overlooks Lake Como, beat off stiff competition to claim the top spot in the first edition of the World's 50 Best Hotels list, which was announced at an awards ceremony in the UK .
The long-awaited list honored 50 hotels from 35 destinations around the world.
The list is compiled by the World's 50 Best Hotels Academy, which is made up of 580 hotel industry experts, including hoteliers and travel journalists, from around the world.
