In August, during the MTV VMAs, The Weeknd took to the stage with a bloody face:

Last night, he appeared at the MTV American Music Awards covered with a bandage on his face and with the same look, performed the songs "Save Your Tears" and "In Your Eyes".

But, The Weeknd was not really damaged during the evening.
In fact, he was sending a message based on his music and the personality he was promoting from his latest album, "After Hours", as well as from the short films he made for "Blinding Lights" and "After Hours".
The Weeknd was warning people not to give the car a drunken state, physically telling them what kind of injuries can occur from car accidents.
As he explained to Esquire earlier this year, his song "After Hours" is about the way you definitely want to see someone in the middle of the night, drunk and blinded by the street lights, but nothing "It can't stop you from trying to go see that person because you feel so lonely."
"I never want to promote drunk driving, but that's the story."
The Weeknd was photographed with bandages on his face on Nov. 9 while he was shooting a music video and according to Just Jared, a new song is coming soon.
In his AMA speech, The Weeknd dedicated the victory to Prince:
"The last time I received this award, it was given to me by the late Prince and you know, he's the reason I have to constantly challenge the R&B genre. I would like to pay this price to him. Thank you."
