We've all heard of the special power of music, which in the first sounds takes us back to specific moments of the past. You must have seen some videos turned viral online showing how a patient suffering from dementia after hearing a certain music was reminded of clear moments from his youth.
Why is this happening? Why does music bring back so vivid a memory of the past? According to psychological research this is explained by the fact that music is a stimulator present in most events of our lives. We set music when we get married, when we perform the rites of following someone towards the last dwelling, during birthdays and sometimes during the birth process. The presence of music during these events makes every time we hear it in the future, we remember the moment and relive it again.
Another study has shown that people feel more closely related to favorite music, compared to their favorite film or book. This is for the particular reason because music strengthens our memories starting in the teenage period, since this is the stage where each of us is seeking and knowing identity better.
